PULSE
Audio-visual collaborative research project and performance event by composer Ryoko Akama, master Koto player Sumie Kent and sound artist Michelle Lewis-King. PULSE combines digital technology and traditional instrumentation to explore the embodiment of interior and exterior pulse soundscapes. PULSE uses Michelle Lewis-King’s doctoral project, “Pulse Project” as the basis for the performance, score production and visuals.
This project was jointly supported by University of Huddersfield and Anglia Ruskin University. The Koto player and I both followed Ryoko Akama's score, which was adapted from my pulse reading of the Koto player. A feedback loop system of silences, sounds and images was created through the responses between Koto player and I whilst performing.
